About

Boundary Bay Law works with individuals and businesses to navigate rapidly changing U.S. immigration regulations and policy. We are dedicated to facilitating economic opportunities and uniting families in the United States.

The firm's principal, Nicholas Berning, has practiced U.S. immigration law for over a decade and is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association. The firm's efforts are supported by dedicated paralegal and office manager, Maralise Fegan, who has spent her entire paralegal career with immigration law firms.
Nicholas Berning has practiced immigration law since January 2007. Before co-founding Boundary Bay Law in 2015, he served as the Practice Manager at his previous firm from 2008 to 2015. Nick has represented over 200 EB-5 immigrant investors and E-2 non-immigrant investors. He also has extensive experience with both immigrant and temporary work visas, and with family sponsorship visas.

Nick currently serves on the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association’s Washington Chapter Consular Processing Committee. He previously served two terms as the Chair of the Washington Chapter’s Limited License Legal Technician Committee.

Where to Start
In order to live or work in the United States, a non-citizen must first obtain a visa for that purpose under a specific category.  Visas are granted for a number of different reasons and time periods based on a variety of qualifications.  If you are not sure what visa category might be right for your specific circumstances and goals, you may want to begin by taking a look at the U.S. Department of State's Visa Wizard.  This tool collects some basic information about you and will provide you with some initial guidance about what visa options may be available to you.  We recommend that you use the results from the Visa Wizard to schedule a consultation to discuss your visa options in more detail with an attorney.
